2011 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS AIRS LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS
"The 2011 Billboard Music Awards" will be broadcast on ABC live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. The announcement was made by Richard D. Beckman, CEO of Prometheus Global Media, which owns Billboard. The show is scheduled to air on SUNDAY, MAY 22 (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET) and will become one of the most important music forums for artists on television. The live broadcast will be co-executive produced by Beckman and Don Mischer of Don Mischer Productions.
Richard D. Beckman
"We're thrilled to partner with Billboard on the Billboard Music Awards. ABC is already the destination for such prestigious music events as The American Music Awards and The CMA Awards, and we're proud The Billboard Music Awards will now be calling us their home," said Vicki Dummer, senior vice president, Alternative Series, Specials and Late-Night, ABC Entertainment Group. "We see this marquee event as a valuable asset and perfect opportunity for us to launch in May."
"This show marks the first of several broadcast platforms we plan to build around the Billboard franchise," said Beckman. "We have an incredible network partner and, with Don Mischer, one of the finest producers in the world. We look forward to entertaining music fans with Billboard's own rendition of a televised celebration of music."
Artist popularity will be recognized on stage by objective measures capturing pure fan support through Billboard's legendary chart rankings. The Billboard Music Awards will take a holistic look at artist performance based on key fan interactions with music, including album, single and digital sales, touring, streaming, as well as social interactions on MySpace, Facebook and many of the other most popular online destinations for music. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners.
The awards will be based on the reporting period of February 28, 2010 through March 1, 2011. Top artists will be recognized in a variety of genres, for example R&B, Rap, Pop, Country, Rock, Latin and Alternative. Such recognition will be determined and authenticated by Billboard.
"Las Vegas is a world-class destination known for hosting special events," said Rossi Ralenkotter, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. "Millions of visitors enjoy our entertainment offerings every year, and having the Billboard Music Awards return to Las Vegas gives them one more reason to visit."
Emmy Rossum Honored at Niche Media's Vegas Magazine Cover Party at The Bank Nightclub in Bellagio
Showtime’s new Shameless star, actress Emmy Rossum celebrated her cover on Niche Media’s February issue of Vegas Magazine with Editor-in-Chief Abby Tegnelia and Publisher Josef Vann at The Bank Nightclub at Bellagio on Super Bowl weekend.
The Vegas Magazine party held at The Light Group’s premier nightlife destination, The Bank Nightclub at Bellagio, served as a homecoming for the good-girl actress who typically comes to sin-city on family trips. “I dig Vegas,” Rossum said in the current issue of Vegas magazine. “It’s really fun and I love the energy, but it’s more of a family place to me.” Emmy, who dubbed herself the “un-Strip Vegas person”, danced the night away and mingled among the club’s elegant booths while sipping Beau Joie champagne. Emmy looked stunning in a red and maroon dress by Etro.
To celebrate the February
issue, Vegas magazine created
a truly luxurious atmosphere with dim lighting, spacious booths and special

Emmy Rossum is on the Cover of Vegas Magazine Talking About Shameless and Visiting VegasEmmy Rossum is THE IT girl of the hour getting lots of attention for her sexy scenes in her new Showtime TV show Shameless. Here is some exclusive content from Vegas magazine’s February issue with Emmy on the cover:
Rossum dishes to VEGAS magazine about her no frills look on the set of Shameless, telling the February issue that “We pretty much get no hair and makeup at all; they frizz out my hair a little and rub mascara around my eyes, and that’s it.” The down to earth starlet admits that she loves the easy look, telling the mag, “I love the no-vanity aspect of it. It’s really liberating from having had so many years of period costume drama.”
Emmy Rossum hosts Vegas magazine’s February Issue Bash at
The Bank Nightclub at Bellagio
On her steamy sex scenes in her birthday suit with co-star hottie Justin Chatwin, Rossum admits that performing sex scenes isn’t for everyone, gushing to VEGAS mag, “It’s like, OK, time to take my top off.” Rossum matter-of-factly tells Vegas mag that, “the whole thing is so silly that if we weren’t so comfortable with each other it would be really uncomfortable.” Rossum even admits that “It’s definitely an acquired experience. You look over and the camera guy is very politely averting his gaze between takes,” the 24 year old says in the February issue of VEGAS magazine.
More sex on the mind, Rossum reflects on the intense sex scenes she plays in and on why they are so intense, Rossum tells VEGAS mag that “Sex is meant to feel good, and she wants to feel good. Her [Rossum’s character-Fiona Gallagher] life is so shitty in so many ways. Some people use alcohol, some people use gambling-and some people use sex.”
But while the newly single Rossum (she broke up with Counting Crows’ Adam Duritz last fall) has no apprehension about pushing the envelope on-screen, her life is substantially more PG off, especially while visiting Las Vegas. Rossum opens up to VEGAS magazine about her relaxed family life saying “My uncle lives in the suburbs of Vegas, so I’ve spent time there but not so much on the Strip. I dig Vegas. It’s really fun and I love the energy, but it’s more of family place to me.”

Jose Andres Brings Vibrant Flavors to China Poblano
Inspired by China Poblana, a mythic figure in Mexican culture, who was an Asian slave woman whose colorful embroidered clothes are said to have inspired the traditional Mexican dress of the same name.
José Andrés’ was fascinated by the history he found connecting China and Mexico, two countries who cuisine he has always admired. He wanted to bring these vibrant flavors and culinary techniques together in one place, where you can enjoy noodles, dumplings and tacos in one meal.
Andrés and his team extensively traveled through China and Mexico to research the traditional and urban dishes. Signature menu items include a large selection of tacos, featuring duck tongues, carnitas and Yucatan-style barbecue pork. Also har gau, steamed dumplings, dan dan noodles, soups like ‘Swallowing a Cloud’ and Ten Treasure soup, and rou jia mo, a chopped braised pork sandwich.
The name also illustrates the centuries old connection of China and Mexico that dates back to Spanish trade ships under King Philip II that sailed the Pacific transporting goods, foods and immigrants between the two countries.
China Poblano will offer Chinese and Mexican beers, along with a small selection of wines. Premium tequilas and mezcals will be featured as well as José Andrés’ renowned creative cocktails. Agua Frescas and Chinese teas round out the selection.

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF
The story of Arno Marsh will be told, sung, and played by a
retinue of talent assembled for a matinee performance at the E-String, November
14th at 3:00PM.
Producer/writer Phil Marcus Esser has wrapped the Bruce Harper Band
around Arno and his life story as he plays his way from big band to big band. Besides the 17 piece orchestra there
will be special appearances by piano man Charlie Shaffer and his bass playing sidekick
of many years, Bob Baker, as well as singers Mike Miele, Laura Shaffer, and
During the last 65 years, Arno Marsh has played sax for 30 famous bands (that he could remember) He forgot Lionel Hampton. You’d think he’d remember that! He was the only white musician in that band. He might have forgotten a few more. The thing is, he’s been everywhere and he’s done everything. And, he still plays many of the reunions of all these bands: Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Harry James, Jimmy Dorsey, Count Basie. A few months ago, he flew to Chile to play in an orchestra presentation of the Frank Sinatra Song Book, another style of music that he had been so much a part of.
When you see and hear him playing his well used tenor sax
that used to belong to Stan Getz, it’s hard to believe that Arno Marsh is 82
years old. You find yourself being transported to birdland. You pay attention! His
dad paid attention when Arno mentioned that he liked the Louis Armstrong stuff
a lot more than the Guy Lombardo. So, when Arno was ten years old, he was given
a trumpet. He said, “No”, so his father tried a saxophone! That was it! And you
have to wonder if he had any idea where that instrument was going to lead him. In
1945, he left his hometown, Grand Rapids, Michigan, to try his skills as a sax
player in what they then called, “Midwest territory bands”. He wanted to play Jazz. A few years later, he joined Woody
Herman in creating what would be known as “The Third Herd”. From there the list
of famous bands and performances go on forever. He was good! The offers kept
Arno moved to Las Vegas in 1960 and joined the famous Charlie Ventura band at the Thunderbird Lounge. The jam sessions there with Arno, Carl Fontana and Ventura were legendary. Drew Page, a sax and clarinet player who started with the big bands in the 1920’s and who wrote Drew’s Blue’s – A Sideman’s Life With The Big Bands in 1981 praises Arno as one of the great heroes of the big bands. Working along side of them, he says that Arno Marsh and Carl Fontana were perfect sight readers that never made any mistakes on anything written or improvised.

OriginIndia Wins Nevada Restaurant Association's Restaurant Neighbor Award
Owner of OriginIndia Raja Majid
The awards program was created by the National Restaurant Association, based in Washington, D.C., to honor restaurants' commitment to community service and innovative community projects and to underscore that restaurants truly are the cornerstone of local communities. OriginIndia is competing with winners from other states for the national award to be presented in September. Other Nevada state winners include Memphis BBQ in the medium business category and Atlantis in the large business category.
OriginIndia, which was voted "Best Indian Restaurant" by the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 2007 as well as rated excellent by the 2008 Zagat Guide, supports communities through a variety of projects. The restaurant gave all donations from its second anniversary celebration to Safe Nest, which is a local shelter for abused women and children. OriginIndia also held a very successful fundraiser for the Myanmar/Burma Relief Fund, where $1 from every check for one month was donated to the cause. In addition, the restaurant was involved in Taste of the Nation 2007 and Aviation Nation 2007, which "was a wonderful opportunity for the restaurant industry to celebrate servicemen and women," says Majid. "I feel blessed in my life, and by giving a portion back to my community, I hope to help the less fortunate."
OriginIndia Restaurant wins 2008 Restaurant Neighbor Award
Recently, the restaurant sponsored the honor cords for 29 graduating seniors who have earned their National ProStart® Certificate of Achievement. To earn the prestigious certification, each student must complete the rigorous ProStart® program, pass first- and second-year exams, and work at least 400 hours in the industry. Wearing the cord means that the students have earned college credits and have proven themselves to be honor students. The restaurant also recently hosted the ProStart® Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, durin¬g which teachers were given a back-of-the-house tour.
"Raja is a prime example of the generosity and philanthropy Nevada restaurants exhibit every day of the year in their communities," says National Restaurant Association Interim President and CEO Katherine Jacobi. "The Restaurant Neighbor Award recognizes the driving force behind restaurants involvement in community service. It is a great way to shine the spotlight on and honor the many things they do each day to make our communities better places to live and work."
Continuing philanthropic work, OriginIndia is taking a new charity under its wing. Beginning in October 2008, OriginIndia will hold monthly events throughout the Valley. All proceeds will be donated to Through the Eyes of a Child Foundation. This charity supports the children living at Child Haven, Clark County's refuge for abused, abandoned and neglected children. Raja Majid and OriginIndia will attend their events and donate money for their scholarship programs. Through the Eyes of a Child's events are in place to allow as many as 175 children hours of fun. Some of whom may not have ever experienced a safe environment that allows them to connect with an adult with no agenda other than to make sure they have a positive experience. For the Holidays, a Christmas tree will be placed in the restaurant where OriginIndia staff and customers may bring in toys or money to donate to the children, and as ornaments, write their names of little wooden angles. We will personally deliver all the toys to the children at their Christmas event.
"Restaurants have long been true cornerstones of local communities across the country-in fact, nine out of 10 restaurants are involved in community service-and we are very pleased to recognize their efforts with our Restaurant Neighbor Award," says National Restaurant Association President and Chief Executive Officer Dawn Sweeny. "Each year, we learn of new and innovative ways restaurants serve local communities across the nation."
Criss Angels' Luxor Show
CRISS ANGEL BELIEVE
CRISS ANGEL Believe™ is a haunting exploration deep inside the inventive mind of mystifier Criss Angel as he hovers between the land of the living and a surreal world uniquely woven together by the distinctive imaginations of Criss Angel and Cirque du Soleil.
Unlike traditional magic-themed shows, CRISS ANGEL Believe™ transcends any preconceived notion of what it means to be emotionally engaged by the arts of mysticism and illusion. Imagine a fantasy, an allegory, a highly theatrical tableau of mood, reverie and emotion set against a backdrop of dreamlike darkness and light.
Criss Angel stars as a surreal, enigmatic Victorian Noble. Along a path of imaginative exploration, he encounters Kayala and Crimson, two women who represent different aspects of femininity, four bizarre Ushers, who will introduce the audience to the baroque theater of Criss’s mind and a high-energy troupe of characters and dancers who mix a multitude of styles into a high-energy visual feast, punctuated by moments of grace and sensuality.
The stunning illusions in CRISS ANGEL Believe™ is not presented as standalone elements, but as interdependent components using heightened imagery, fantastical creatures and impossible feats of legerdemain, all of which will be integrated into the dazzling, colorful fabric of the story.

Master Sommelier Joseph Phillips
Bellagio recently announced the induction of Joseph Phillips of Sensi into the Court of Master Sommeliers. Phillips becomes the fourth member of Bellagio’s already impressive team of Master Sommeliers. He joins Robert Smith of Picasso, Jason Smith of MICHAEL MINA Bellagio, and Bellagio's Director of Wine Robert Bigelow.
Master Sommelier Robert Smith
This honor establishes the record for the most Master Sommeliers at a single property anywhere in the world. Home to a record 18 sommeliers, four of whom are female, Bellagio has become a place where aspiring sommeliers become masters. There are 1,600 bottles on Bellagio’s master wine list and 5,250 bottles property-wide. There are 250 wines offered by the glass at Bellagio, with an average of 20 wines by the glass offered in each fine dining room.
Master Sommelier Jason Smith
Considered the highest honor among wine professionals, the title of Master Sommelier recognizes the utmost level of wine and spirits knowledge. Three levels of training must be completed before pursuing the Master Sommelier diploma: Introductory Sommelier, Certified Sommelier and Advanced Sommelier. Upon completion of these courses, candidates are required to pass a rigorous 3-part exam, testing the extent of their knowledge. The test consists of written exams, service exams as well as blind tastings.
Master Sommelier Robert Bigelow
Bellagio's AAA Five Diamond Award-winning resort is a phenomenon in the world of fine wine and dining. "There are 96 Master Sommeliers in America and 167 worldwide," said Bellagio's Director of Wine Robert Bigelow, "four of them are here. My goal is to make Bellagio the world's best wine program – where Master Sommeliers are made."
In addition to serving as Director of Wine for Bellagio, Master Sommelier Robert Bigelow is on the Board of Directors for both the Court of Master Sommeliers and the Guild of Sommeliers. In 2007, Robert was honored to be named Santé magazine's Wine Professional of the Year.

A 320-acre man made lake is the centerpiece of the community that is surrounded by thousands of acres of public lands.
