Louis Prima On The Hollywood Walk of Fame
The 50th Anniversary of the Hollywood Walk of Fame was celebrated on Sunday July 25th with a festival that included tours of Hollywood Studios and Theaters, a special exhibit at The Hollywood Museum and Live Musical Performances. The first Sunday Walk of Fame Ceremony in the history of the Walk of Fame was to honor New Orleans, Louisiana native, Louis Prima, who lived in Las Vegas for a big part of his life. Louis Prima would have been 100 years old this year and was long overdue for his Star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The unveiling of his Star began with a ceremony at 11:30 AM on Vine St. between Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard right in front of The Ricardo Montalban Theater. The media was well represented with their video cameras and flash photography. This was a big event to honor “The Original King of Swing” Jazz Trumpeter and Singer, the incomparable Louis Prima. Louis Prima's children from his marriage to singer Gia Maione, Louis Prima, Jr. and Lena Prima were there as representatives from the family to perform, as well as speak to the sizable crowd.
Steve Tuminello, Louis Prima, Jr. and Lena Prima
I had met Louis, Jr. and had seen Lena's Tribute Show to her Father and Mother that she performed at The Sahara Hotel several years back. I had not met Lena and was looking forward to meeting her and telling her how much I had enjoyed her Tribute Show. I last saw Louis, Jr. at The Palms Hotel where Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns were performing and Kenny Loggins was making a special appearance.
Several speakers got up to say a few words about Louis Prima and how his career spanned eight decades and how his music influenced so many generations. My 19 year old Daughter, Natalie, was with me and she remembered Louis Prima being the voice of “King Louie” in the Disney Classic “Jungle Book” and also used in “The Rescuers” animated film.
Louis, Jr. mentioned various artists covering his Father's Hits most notably David Lee Roth with “Just a Gigolo”
After the placement of the Star was completed Louis, Jr. performed for almost half an hour on Stage in front of the Montalban Theater with his 8 piece band bringing his Sister, Lena up on stage, as well as his young son, Anthony. The drummer was Jimmy Prima, Son of Leon Prima, Louis Prima's Brother. Sarah Spiegel was a featured female vocalist. They performed many of the most famous Louis Prima Hits.
My Father was always a big Louis Prima fan and very proud that a fellow Sicilian from Louisiana, our home State, made it so big. Later that afternoon I ran in to a Music Producer friend in Hollywood and told him about attending the Louis Prima Star Ceremony. He commented “ Well it's about time!”
“Louis Prima was a Giant in the Entertainment Industry” He then told me how when he was only nine years old his Father slipped him in to a club in Chicago to see Louis Prima perform. Obviously, that experience had a big influence on my friend's life and his career choice.
When Louis, Jr. spoke he said “My Father always said I want my music to make the people Happy” and there were certainly a lot of “Happy” Louis Prima Fans at this very special event.

BB King Music Club is Food for the Soul in Las Vegas
On a recent visit to Las Vegas I decided to take an out of town friend to experience the BB King's Blues Club inside The Mirage Hotel.

BB King has Restaurant/Clubs in Orlando and West Palm Beach in Florida, as well as Memphis and Nashville in Tennessee. The newest club in Las Vegas opened in December of 2009. BB King has been a resident of Las Vegas for over thirty years, so it was a natural to open in Las Vegas and fans from all over the world could visit this location when they come to the city of lights.

We were given a booth near the bandstand, so that we could enjoy the sounds of Blues Singer and Guitarist, P. J. Barth and his band. There are not that many venues in Las Vegas where you can enjoy dinner and dancing to live music.
Our server, Kris Darling, was very attentive and I felt the service was excellent. We enjoyed cocktails while listening to the music before ordering.
Sous Chef Marlin Johnson came to our table and explained the various appetizers and entrees. He selected a chef's sampler for us so that we could experience a cross section off of their menu.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Bar B Que Ribs and Fried Catfish as an appetizer. The Carolina BBQ Salmon with Shrimp, Andouille Sausage and Corn Chowder was excellent. We also enjoyed sides of Bar B Que Baked Beans and Collard Greens.
For dessert we tried the home made Peach Cobbler. A perfect compliment to the flavors of the incredible feast
At BB King's it's the best of both worlds, music and food for the soul!
A must for visitors to Las Vegas!

Following His Record Breaking Two And A Half
Year Run At Harrah’s Reno, London Begins Previews
Of His Critically Acclaimed Hit Show In The Mardi Gras
Showroom June 16, With the Grand Opening
Set For Mid-July
You thought Las Vegas’ biggest coup was Garth Brooks signing on for acoustic weekends at the Wynn? Hardly. He is certainly terrific but—the country legend is just one guy!
Greg London is coming to town with scores of pop culture “ICONS,” all channeled by the master musical impressionist himself, ready to reshape the city’s entertainment landscape.
Following his record shattering two and a half year run in Sammy’s Showroom at Harrah’s Reno, the multi-talented performer—voted Nevada Magazine’s 2009 Entertainer of the Year in a reader’s poll—brings his critically acclaimed show “Greg London’s ICONS – Entertaining the World One Impression at a Time” to The Riviera Hotel and Casino, located on The Strip at 2901 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
Produced by Bob Byers, Jr., David DeLorenzo and Frank Visco, “Greg London’s ICONS,” which was also voted Best Show in Northern Nevada in the same Nevada Magazine poll, will begin previews in the Mardi Gras Showroom on Wednesday, June 16, with the Grand Opening set for mid-July. Showtimes will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ticket prices are $39.99, $59.99 (preferred seating) and $69.99 (VIP). All prices are base plus tax and fee. For more information, call The Riviera Box Office toll free at (877) 892-7469 or visit www.rivierahotel.com.
Thankful for what they do, London says, the first 100 active members of the military, police, firefighters and first responders will be admitted free to each show through July with proper ID showing their active service presented at the Riviera box office.
Greg London will grace the stage at the same world famous venue where numerous superstars and Las Vegas legends have performed such as Louis Armstrong, The Beach Boys, Tony Bennett, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Engelbert Humperdink, Liberace, Barry Manilow, Dean Martin, Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton, Luciano Pavarotti, Kenny Rogers, Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand, The Supremes and The Temptations, some of who London impersonates in his show.
Among the “ICONS” that are part of London’s fascinating repertoire are Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Tina Turner , Ray Charles, Sammy Davis, Jr., Rod Stewart, Michael Jackson, Macy Gray , Tony Bennett, David Cassidy, Dean Martin, David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks of The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Freddie Mercury/Queen, Barry Manilow, Elton John, Joe Cocker, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Jim Morrison of the Doors, ZZ Top, David Bowie, Axl Rose, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, Robin Gibb of The Bee Gees, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Julio Iglesias, Tom Jones, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ozzy Osbourne, Kermit The Frog, James Bond (Sean Connery version), Austin Powers and the “Phantom of the Opera.”
Fresh off his win for “Best Adult Contemporary Song” at the 2009 Hollywood Music In Media Awards (HMMA), London has been selected to co-host the third annual event at The Highlands in the Hollywood & Highland Kodak Theatre Complex on November 18, 2010. The singer’s recording of “Everything I Own” was the highest charting new artist release and highest charting release on an independent label (airplay charts) of 2009. London scored back to back Top 5 singles on the FMQB Adult Contemporary Radio Chart. London also made Music Connection Magazine’s list of Hot 100 Artists of 2009.
In 2008, he appeared in the independent film “The Dukes,” playing a member of a washed up doo-wop group that turns, comically, to a life of crime. His cohorts are Chazz Palmenteri, two time Academy Award nominee Peter Bogdanovich and renowned character actor Robert Davi (“Die Hard,” “Profiler”), who wrote, directed and co-produced the film.
London, who launched his live musical comedy performance career in various venues at the Pebble Beach resort, even made Clint Eastwood’s day. Dirty Harry himself says of this million dollar baby, “Greg will leave you emotionally charged with a truly great performance.”
