Menopause The Musical Performed its 1,000th Show on Sunday

Annette Verdolino, Cheryl Spencer, Paige O'Hara, Susan Beaubian

Menopause The Musical® is credited for nine million fans that have seen the spectacular 90 minute production in 11 countries. This hilarious hit is sweeping the nation from coast- to-coast and internationally.

Laura Lee O'Connell, Vita Corimbi, Cherie Price, Skye Miles

This year, the show will take its message to nearly 50 cities throughout the world. Menopause The Musical® in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Hilton commemorated its 1,000th show Sunday January 13, 2008.

Steve Tuminello, Loretta St. John and Sandra Benton

Menopause The Musical® is “a collection of 25 baby boomer songs re-lyricized to tout everything from night sweats, hot flashes and mood swings, to food binges, memory loss and wrinkles” says writer/producer Jeanie Linders. The cast consist of four characters who meet fighting over a black lace bra at a New York City Bloomingdale’s lingerie sale who are experiencing The Change. Menopause The Musical® intended message is that menopause is a passage, but it should no longer  be The Silent Passage.

Sandra Benton and Skye Dee Miles

“In retrospect,” says Writer/Producer Jeanie Linders, “the characters as a whole are a compilation of my personality, or any woman who was a post-World War II baby, for that matter. Each of us has a part of our personality that is ‘glam’ or striving for success, or dedicated to making our physical world a better place, or to being a loving mate. I think that is one of the reasons the women in the audience so readily identify with the characters. Seeing them ‘suffer’ the woes of menopause only brings the experience closer to home.”

Ann Verdolino and Laura Lee O'Connell

Such camaraderie is evident through the many letters and e-mails TOC Productions, Inc., receives on a weekly basis. “I saw your show and haven’t stopped singing the songs! It was more than just the fantastic music parodies – the women on stage were like me, the ladies in the audience were like me; I felt I wasn’t alone.” “I think all doctors should see this!” says an enthusiastic fan. She also claims the show “made me feel a thousand times better!”

Cherie Price and Lori-Legacy Hunt

Linders says, “This has become a point of relating, an event, a celebration of a life passage that launches women into an exciting new phase of their lives. Most women know intuitively every other woman is experiencing the memory loss or night sweats or hot flashes.  But, when they’re in a theatre with hundreds women, and they’re all shouting ‘that’s me!;’ then they know what they are experiencing is normal. They aren’t crazy; they call it a ‘sisterhood.’”

Paige O'Hara and Cheryl Spencer

“The show’s appeal transcends all socio-economic, cultural and age lines”, according to Linders. “Whether the women are draped in pearls or plastic beads, they all laugh the same way. The show – as with menopause itself – knows no boundaries,” she said.

Susan Beaubian and Vita Corimbi

One fan writes to the production’s Web site... www.menopausethemusical.com

“I have a confession. I’m a Menopause The Musical® junkie...  Even my husband’s interest was piqued when I told him about the songs. He went and agreed it was the best  show!”
